“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” – Thoreau
Kirsten Lie-Nielsen is a writer and farmer who grew up in Midcoast Maine. After spending her youth riding horses competitively and gnawing on fresh vegetables, she moved away from farm life for a few years but quickly learned that the taste of fresh vegetables is kind of addicting.
Returning to farm life in 2013, Kirsten’s “homestead” quickly grew to encompass geese, chickens, bees, and gardens. Wanting to share the experiences and lessons of life on the farm, she soon started working with various magazines to do freelance writing about farm life. Since moving to Liberty, Maine in 2016, Kirsten’s farm has continued to grow and her love of self reliant living and simple living continues to flourish.
Patrick Jackson grew up in Yarmouth, Maine with a flock of ducks as the family pets. After spending years in the corporate world, Patrick was drawn towards farming and its steady rhythms. With plenty of building know-how, Patrick’s construction abilities have been crucial in developing the farm and his vision keeps the spirits high no matter the obstacles.
Together we are working to transform this ailing farm into a bustle of animals and activities. Our goal is to break the mold of traditional farming with a modern take on homesteading. Our focuses include native Maine medicinal plant crops, using a flock of geese for weeding and crop control, and caring for goats, chickens, bees, and gardens to further our self sufficiency.
